New Yarnbabies

So I stopped by Ewe to You for the first time today. I told Aaron that I was just going window shopping since I hadn't been in before.

I chit-chatted with Kathy and Jeffery for a few and did all the touchy-feelies with the yarn, like I'm sure we all do. I fell for a couple balls of sock yarn (Filatura di Crosa Maxime white/pink) and couldn't resist, so they got to come home with me. I think I have to learn how to knit socks now...

Now, my son is all about the details. When I paint my nails, he has to know what the name of the polish is. If I color my hair, the same thing. If I bring home new yarnbabies, he has to touch them and know what they're called too. As he's squishing them today, he asks "what are these called, Mommy?" Aaron chimes in, "They're called "Window Shopping", Connor."

My husband totally cracks me up...

The Knit Itchies...

It's been a while since I've worked on some of my projects. That's what happens when the weather starts getting warm and I've got outside stuff to do. But I've been itching to get back to it lately.

So, yesterday I made a pouch for my ipod (pix to come). And I'm working on a scarf today that has been a work in progress for a while. I think I might take it to meet a new knitting group tonight (Particularly Selfish Knitters in Grand Blanc). Either that or I may start a cap for KnitMichigan. I'm overdue to get started on that project and I'm hoping to contribute at least 5 chemo caps this year.

I also found out about another charity that I may have to contribute to. It's called the Snuggles Project. Basically you're making little blankets for animals at your local shelter to give them some comfort. Although I may have to make them and have Aaron drop them off. I have a feeling if I go to the shelter I may come home with a new addition to the family. I'm just a softy like that. Hehe...

SCOOOOORE!!!!!

So, my friend Cherry & I went to Knit Michigan in Bloomfield Hills on Saturday. We had a total blast! I was kinda bummed that I only had one hat to turn in, but I figure I'll have a whole year to make more for the next one. We walked around the sales stalls and ooh'ed and ahh'ed over all the pretty, pretty yarn everyone had. I am now officially wanting some alpaca.

But I was on a mission to find some buffalo yarn. I've been wanting to get some to make Aaron a nice warm hat for winter. Unfortunately, buffalo runs $45-65 a skein which totally bummed me out. Then at one stall, I noticed they had what looked like loose wool. I looked at the package. It's buffalo! "How much?", I asked. $16!!!!! But I couldn't get it because it wasn't yarn, just the pencil roving and I didn't know how to spin. Bummer.

So Cherry decided she wanted to keep looking around while I went up to the Ravelry room to get my button, talk to a few people and check out the silent auction room. I missed the first silent auction by 10 minutes (another bummer!) so I checked out a couple of the classes that were offered.

In the knitting room, they were teaching the basics. I didn't stick around but I picked up a couple of the instruction sheets for a couple of other friends who want to learn. I didn't even go into the weaving room, because I really didn't want to get sucked into another hobby that I'd have to buy a bunch of stuff for. The last room caught me though. It was Spinning! I was going to just watch, but the gals teaching finally talked me into having a seat and giving it a try. They gave me a spindle to keep and some roving to practice with. It was so much fun! It's also relaxing and theraputic.

After a while, I called Cherry to let her know where I was and found out she was in the room right next door. She came over and gave it a try too. We sat for a while, chatting and spinning with the other gals and before we knew it, it was past 2:00!

There were some other things that we wanted to do while we were downstate and we weren't going to be back when I thought we were, so I called Aaron to let him know. Then you know I went to get that pencil roving before we left!!! They had two colors. I picked out two bags of the
tumeric and off we went.

We had some lunch at a Mediterranean place then went to World Market, where I found a molcajete I'd been looking for forever and a shabu shabu pot. YAY!!! On the way home though, I started thinking that I should have gotten that other roving color. Bummer.

I got home. Aaron was impressed with my newly learned skill and my shopping prowess. :^P" The kids were happy to see me and tell me everything they'd been up to. It was thoroughly satisfying day.

Today I got a call from the vendor who sold me the roving. It seems they missed a number on my card. I asked, "Do you happen to still have that other batch of roving and do you ship?" My new roving will be here in a couple of days. :D :D :D

Finally!

Well, I've finally finished work on Chemo Cap #1 for Knit Michigan. It turned out fantastic, I think, but it sure did take a long time. I was hoping to have 4 caps (of varying design) done before I go on the 2nd, but I'm not sure now. I didn't anticipate the time it would take working with so many stitches (88 of them!) or working with smaller, unfamiliar needles. Circulars are definitely different!

So, I think I'm going to change tact and use a couple of patterns that are a little more familiar and are faster. I don't believe that it will make the projects any less pretty because it's faster and more people will benefit.

Now, If I can just keep my knits and purls in order so that I end up with ribbing instead of a bunch of bumps! Hehe.....
